June 5, 2006  HCPro publishes new guide to compliance monitoring

HCPro has published a new book, Guide to Monitoring: Tools and strategies to enlist department managers in hospital compliance, authored by Stephen A. Miller, JD and Elizabeth Stewart, RHIA.

The guide and accompanying CD provide compliance officers and department directors with tools to develop decentralized compliance monitoring programs.  Advisement, case studies, samples, and 10 advanced, adaptable MS-Excel monitoring tool workbooks are included with the package.  For those who are in need of MS-Excel training, the guide also includes an Excel primer to learn new techniques or improve current skills.

“What makes this guide unique is that we focused not only on the mechanics of program development, but the need for gaining and maintaining management and staff buy-in to compliance monitoring,” said Ms. Stewart.  “If you can create a positive, non-parental relationship between the compliance department and other service lines, you are far more likely to succeed.”

Each monitoring tool on the CD contains sample instructions, protocol, audit forms, and auto-calculating summary reports.  In addition, sample board, senior management, and management summary reports, as well as department interview tools, are also included.
